This was our first commissioned design. Created for a fellow member of Brickish (a UK-wide community of Adult Fans of LEGO®) for his son to build for an 11+ entry project.
The client and his son visited Haileybury to take reference photos for me to work from (251 photos in fact). I then used these alongside aerial photography and Ordnance Survey mapping to create a CAD layout of Haileybury. Once this was done and scaled to suit LEGO® bricks the design work could begin.
The model was designed to be modular so that it could be built by his son at home, then taken for display. As part of his project the entire build was filmed so that it could be documented and written up.
It took over 500hours to design the model and its instructions (of which there were 32 instruction books totaling just over 4900 pages). The model consisted of 37,874 individual LEGO® pieces.
