This event is all in aid of the charity FairyBricks. If you haven’t heard of these guys then go check them out, they donate lots of Lego sets to children in hospitals who otherwise might not be able to get access to it.
Bricktastic was eagerly anticipated as it is the largest UK show we had planned on attending so far and attracts a huge amount of visitors and even exhibitors from around the globe.
This would be a double first for us, as not only was it our first Bricktastic but our first time showing our new Spooky Mansion build. A minifigure scale build with fully featured interiors, exteriors and working lighting.
The lead up to the show was a bit hectic as we needed to get everything finished and packed (we were still soldering the electronics for it the evening beforehand), we got packed and headed off. We made it half way before we had mechanical issues with the van and had to await the RAC!
Once we got back under way we arrived at the venue after setup time and it was closed. The terrific organisers of the show had contacted the venue security and we were able to drop off the van and walk to the hotel. It was around midnight before we finally got in!
An early start to get setup meant some things we had planned to display had to be sidelined to get the mansion out and together. We had a number of technical issues with it on the first day which resulted in our lighting non functioning.
After the show closed for the evening we pulled it apart, traced the problem and got it sorted for the Sunday – apologies to the many of you who didn’t see the lights on the Saturday, but everyone seemed to be happy to shine the phone torches in the windows to look!
Sunday arrived, the show opened, and we had a much more relaxed day. Lots of people commented on how much they liked the interior and also the stories happening in the gardens. The stress of the previous few days faded away and we loved every minute of the weekend.
Even with the breakdown and the issues, the show was a fantastic experience, the organisers made us feel welcome and all the visitors on both the Saturday and Sunday were really happy to see our work. Thanks to everyone involved.
